The Caribbean Link of Guiding is celebrating its 50th birthday, with the climax on 22 April 2009, by setting itself 50 themed challenges ranging from a 50km hike, a set of 50 ‘good turns’, collecting 50 books and donating them to a local charity and getting each Girl Guide to pick up 50 pieces of rubbish.
From April to June, a virtual torch has been passing among those 21 Caribbean countries alphabetically. During the celebrations, under the theme ’Forging friendships, nurturing Caribbean unity through Guiding’ associations could use the lively anniversary song which was composed by Girl Guide Caryl Edwards of Antigua.
The Caribbean Link has asked every Member Organization to hold a special Link celebration birthday party to say happy birthday to the region and collect donations in a specially made ‘cake piggy bank’. All the funds collected will go to the Link Fund to further the work of the Caribbean Link.
The Caribbean Link of Guiding, created in 1958, is a consortium of 21 Girl Guide Associations from throughout the Caribbean, including the independent countries as well as the British Overseas Territories, coordinated by Girlguiding UK.
